About Finance Skills
Most people receive their first paycheck, W-4 and 401(k) enrollment form without anyone explaining them. Finance Skills fills that gap for workers in the United States, one skill at a time.
The lessons
- Paychecks and Taxes: reading a pay stub, the W-4, filing a first return and taxes on side income.
- Retirement Accounts: 401(k) basics, traditional and Roth IRAs, and old 401(k)s.
- Investing Basics: index funds, compound growth and checking a broker.
How each lesson is put together
Every lesson explains one idea and works through the numbers. Contribution limits, tax thresholds and the Social Security wage base change every year, so we check them against the IRS, the Social Security Administration, the Department of Labor and the SEC’s Investor.gov before publishing, and we update lessons when the figures change. AI tools help with research and first drafts; the checking and editing happen before anything goes live.
What we don’t do
We don’t sell investments, tax preparation or financial planning, and we can’t advise on anyone’s personal situation. No bank, broker or fund company pays to appear in our lessons.
